My First Chess Book: 35 easy and fun chess-based activities for children aged 7 years +
Most players attending our events have got the hang of playing chess. But there's quite a gap between knowing the rules and knowing how to play. It isn't always easy to know how to get across this gap, and this is where Jessica's book comes in.
Quite a lot of getting better at chess is just noticing what is going on -- which pieces can be taken? Can the capturing piece be taken after that?
There's a nifty game called Solitaire Chess by Thinkfun which is fun in itself and also helps you practise just this and other chess skills -- like trying things out in a different order.
You can get it as a board game or an app for Android, iPhone or Amazon devices. There is a free 'taster' version which has lots of puzzles and will give you a feel for how it works.
We have missing or incorrect email addresses for several players -- if you're not getting our emails, send us an email asking to be added to our e-mailing list.
I wish all players an enjoyable and successful season! DR
